This week is my second kind of, sort of spring break. The two counties in my area right now, Santa Rosa and Escambia, had two different spring breaks this year, and it's always interesting for music teachers when that happens. I usually end up with two weeks for I work a little less but have a very weird and random schedule. So today, I actually have the entire day off from teaching, and I'm enjoying the down time. But I'm also thinking of everything that is coming up very soon.
Our baby, Ethan, should be making his entrance into the world soon. His due date is April 14, but we are really at that point where it could be any time. I'm very excited, but also a little anxious. This will be a big learning curve for both my wife and I. But in the end, I'm willing to adjust to any life changes as long as we bring him and Megan home healthy.
My second MM recital at the University of South Alabama will be sometime during the first week of June! It's a very big program, and while I have most of it under my fingers already, the pieces or movements that I don't know as well are really intimidating me. There's some very tricky stuff in there, and practice is probably going to become only harder to come by. I will also be finishing my degree with my two remaining classes this summer. I have a research class (which I'm not really looking forward to), and another music history class with Dr. Moore. I took American Music with her last semester, and it was possibly my favorite class in my academic career. I am definitely looking forward to that class.
Of course, all that isn't enough to do for me. I'll still have three student recitals to get my students ready for, and I need to get started on the schedule for summer lessons. I also have three more (I think) symphony concerts left, but I think that it all.
Yes...I think I will try to just enjoy this day off. Or...I'll meet with the parent of one of my students to discuss college plans, then I'll rehearse with one of the soloists in my recital, and then I'll practice a couple of hours.
